Optimmune eye ointment is for the treatment of chronic, recurrent conjunctivitis resulting from autoimmune disease of the eye. The ointment is indicated for the therapeutic treatment of Keratoconjunctivitis sicca (KCS or ‘dry eye’) and chronic superficial keratitis in the dog. Optimmune is most commonly prescribed for use in dogs with dry eye, with 1 in 22 dogs affected by the disease. Dry eye is caused by a destruction of the tear glands by the dogs own immune system.Â
The active ingredient (ciclosporin) in Optimmune increases the natural tear production to relieve the painful symptoms of the condition.
